I have found it fruitful to use multiple Bible English versions. However, on this site, I will primarily, as I do in my Bible Studies, quote an edition called the World English Bible (WEB). It is a reasonable translation in English that helps to sort out the relatively generic references to the names of God. For example, where many English translations use “Lord” to represent the Hebrew Tetragrammaton, “יְהוָה”, the WEB uses Yahweh (basically we do not have to figure out if the text is saying Yahweh, Elolhim, or some other Hebrew name for which a translator decided to use “Lord” ).
That is all nice … but my main reason for using the WEB version is because of the Copyright standard for that English translation. This translation intentionally has no Copyright restrictions, and is similar to the American Standard version (ASV). Unlike the ASV, the WEB attempts to use a translation well understood by English-speakers worldwide. In some cases, particularly when quoting the Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes, I may use some variation of the King James Version, simply because the “old English” just somehow sounds more appealing to many.
